Blog 02: Is it really for their good?

So I am watching The Green Mile ( one of my favorite movies) today with my Mama and Daddy. The movie gets to the part where John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan) grabs Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) by the hand to show him how “Wild Bill” (Sam Rockwell) had taken the lives of two little girls that John Coffey was being charged with. After he shows him he said “He killed them with their love”.
Now I know I have heard this line every time I have watched this movie but today I really heard it. Wild Bill told each of the girls if you scream that he would hurt the other one and because they loved each other they kept quite and lost their lives.
How many times have we said or did something for someone we love and that loved us because it was “For their own good”? Thinking back to that time, was it really for their own good? Or was it for our own self serving purpose? We tell half and whole truths (brutally honest criticism), we keep secrets (theirs and our own) in order to protect people we love but in the end we end up hurting them more later on.
In the movie this horrible man used these girls’ love for one another (hoping to protect each other) for his own sick and twisted pleasure and protection.
The next time we make decisions that can impact the people we love, ask yourself is this REALLY for their good?

Blog 01: Premeditated Prejudice

.

Premeditated

  1. Done deliberately; planned in advance.

Prejudice

  1. An unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

  2. Any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.

  3. Unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial, social, or religious group.

Thoughts

A preconceived judgement against a person’s character based on past emotional hurt; your emotional state is such that your mind has decided the fate of the encounter/interaction and your behavior acts accordingly. After every negative encounter with anyone on any level you need to ask the Lord for an emotional RESET so that people will be characterized through fresh eyes and not through lens of defeat/deceit.
